Returning after a summer break, 46 members and 3 visitors attended the September evening meeting and had a really enjoyable and inspiring Floral Demonstration from Susan Dudley-Smith. Susan chatted to us whilst she created some beautiful and seemingly effortless displays with fresh flowers, greenery and dried flowers. Thank you to all members who took part in the “mini floral display in a jam jar” competition. This was won by Sue Smith.
The Village show was enjoyed by many of our members and we had multiple successes between us, including winners of the Rose Bowl, the Margaret Karn cup and the Ladies Challenge. Thanks to all who contributed to a wonderful display of homemade baking and items for the Cake and Craft stall. Those of us helping on the stall had a rather challenging afternoon with the weather, but it didn’t deter the wonderful people of Wheldrake who turned up and bought our produce.
The Craft club have been very busy as they have also recently donated 30 twiddle muffs to Ward 37 at York Hospital, to be used by elderly patients with mental health problems.
Upcoming events include a W.I. group service at Skipwith Church featuring our choir, the Autumn Council Meeting at Norton, and trips to the Joseph Rowntree Theatre, Chatsworth House and Boundary Mill at Colne.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday 11th October in White Rose House at 7.15pm. The Speaker for the evening will be Bridget Karn who will be doing a demonstration of Felt Pictures. Please bring any jars of preserves you have made, including jams, marmalade, chutneys etc. for the stall.
We will also be thinking about the election of our new Committee which will take place at the A.G.M during the November meeting.
If anyone would like any more information on joining Wheldrake W.I please contact either Ruth Smith 448728 or Carole Snowdon 448357 or come along to one of our meetings on the second Wednesday of each month.
