APRIL

We had a large attendance of ladies at our April meeting and we were brilliantly entertained by our speaker, Social Historian and Author, Dulcie Lewis.  This was Dulcie’s 3rd visit and her talk entitled “Down the pan” was a history of tin baths and toilets down the ages.  It was an extremely humorous talk and greatly enjoyed by all.

Visits this month include a trip to Joseph Rowntree theatre to see “Oliver” and the Harrogate Spring Flower Show.  The lunch club met at The Pavilion Hotel in Fulford.  The first of the Spring and Summer monthly rambles also started this month, this month led by Cropton WI who also provided a lovely lunch.

This month a group of ladies took part in a litter picking activity along the verges between Crockey Hill and Wheldrake.  We were attempting to remove litter before the grass started to grow again.  We were overwhelmed by the amount of plastic bottles and glass bottles, drink cans and paper lying in the ditches and verges.  We collected over 20 large refuse bags of litter in a few hours.  Our efforts were well rewarded by the huge response of thanks that we got from the villagers on the Wheldrakian website.  We are hoping to repeat this in the near future.
